En el marc de la temporada estable de Teatre Radiofònic a la nostra emissora, avui volem fer-vos arribar una de les obres menys conegudes d'un dels líders del Modernisme català: "El pobre viudo" de Santiago Rusiñol.

Rusiñol, nascut a Barcelona el 1861, fou un artista polifacètic que destacà en diversos camps, alhora que tot un referent en la seva època. A banda de la producció literària, amb més d'un centenar de títols, i la pictòrica, amb més d'un miler d'obres, també va fer incursions en el camp del col·leccionisme i en l'àmbit periodístic. L'obra teatral de Santiago Rusiñol és una part cabdal de la seva creació literària. Rusiñol va ser un dels màxims exponents de la bohèmia modernista catalana, i com a dramaturg va contribuir a la construcció de la cultura catalana de la modernitat gràcies a la mirada crítica i distanciada que proporciona sobre la societat coetània i a la seva construcció de la imatge de l'artista modern, de la qual ell és paradigma. De fet, Rusiñol es pot considerar el gran renovador teatral, com a introductor de les novetats parisenques per superar la concepció que es tenia del teatre a Catalunya, on les obres no havien aconseguit anar més enllà del costumisme més localista i on el teatre era vist com un mer entreteniment i espai de trobada per fomentar les relacions socials. Rusiñol va treballar totes les formes teatrals: monòlegs, teatre líric, drama, melodrames, sainets, teatre de titelles i vodevils, i va passar per diverses etapes fins que es va consagrar definitivament com un mite de l'escena catalana.

L'obra que avui us presentem va ser estrenada als escenaris teatrals el 1916. "El pobre viudo" és una farsa en tres actes que gira al voltant de la situació viscuda per Dom Joaquim, un acabalat vidu sense fills, entristit pel seu estat, que es veu envoltat per parents i parentes amb interessos i esperances de poder treure benefici de la seva herència.

La versió radiofònica que avui posem en antena és un enregistrament de l'any 1986, en una adaptació de Rafael Peris, sota la direcció de Lluís Montull i Joan Garrigó, i amb la participació de Núria Garrich en Encarnació, Margarida Fabregat en Justina, Lidia Segués en Angelina, Joana Palau en la senyora Ruperta, Glòria Farrés en Felipa, Margarida Fullola en la senyora Pastora, Esperança Puig en Carmeta i Lolita, Lluís Montull en Dom Joaquim, Toni Garrich en el senyor Bartomeu, Joan Rodón en Colom, Antoni López en el notari, Manuel Arisó en el senyor Ràfols, Ramon Bravo en el Metge i Joan Salvador en Rafaelito. La narració corre a càrrec de Rafael Peris, el muntatge musical és de Nina Mataix i la realització tècnica de Josep Lluís Lanau.
